Shoptalk/Q&A: Crux New York

Crux New York, I know you’re asking why a Bay Area centric blog is highlighting a New York brand. It’s simple there is more to Crux New York (CruxNY) that meets the eye; Crux was actually started in 2008 by two Bay Area ladies Sennie Clark and Ahyiana Angel. As with many great designers and brands CruxNY started off as a hobby, and quickly turned into a wonderful and now very visible brand. The line has a full range or earrings, necklaces, and bracelets some of the pieces have even been  worn  Beyonce and Solange in the “Party Video” and if that’s not big I don’t know what is. I had a chance to ask the ladies behind Crux  New York more about the line and themselves.

What is your background? (Education, hometown) 

We both have backgrounds in Marketing and Merchandising and are from the Bay Area.

What is your favorite clothing item this season? Any looks for this season?

Sennie: Definitely a nice pair of leather boots.

Angel: Flowy blouses. I love the mix of edgy and soft.  

If you weren't designing what would you be doing?

Although we are designers we also hold positions in the world of merchandising/buying as well as PR so at this point designing is a passion and we are both just trying to live out our dreams!

Does the Bay Area Inspired your designs?

Since we currently live in New York I would not say that the Bay Area inspires our designs on a day-to-day basis but overall yes in terms of our upbringings in the Bay Area helping to shape or style, viewpoints and artistic expression.

What is your favorite kind of accessory?

Sennie: Favorite kind of accessory would be earrings because they are a definite piece that can change any outfit and a simple addition as well.

Angel: I am totally a bracelet type of girl. I love mixing and matching unique pieces...old and new. Sometimes when I wear a vintage piece that has been in my family it makes me feel closer to my family although they are all the way in Cali. 

What’s your favorite piece in your current collection?

 Angel: I would have to say the Haji earrings that Beyonce wore in her "Party" video. You can dress them up or down and that is always a plus.

Sennie: The Rayna necklace. I really like the way that choker necklaces fit on me, so having the choker look with the elongated strands hanging is a big PLUS for me.

You may be still asking yourself why the name “Crux New York” well the ladies put it like this “Crux by definition is sometimes referred to as a vital, decisive, or pivotal point as well as the basic , central, or critical point or feature.....”  and then the New York represents where the line was born.
