Style File Find of the Week: Teatro ZanZanni "Love, Chaos & Couture: All Dressed Up With Someplace to Go"

Last Friday I was given the honor to attend Teatro ZinZanni in San Francisco. Now before some of you ask, what is Teatro ZinZanni think........as you drive along the Embarcadero we’ve all passed it and done a double take, even said “tents on Pier 29?”. Well house inside those tents is “Love, Chaos & Dinner” in the form of cabaret, circus (no animals), and theater, all presented along side a 5 course meal. In addition to the gift of attending I was taken backstage to where some of the magic happens the design studio and got to meet the talented Beaver Bauer the shows costume designer. The reason for meeting Beaver is because Teatro ZinZanni did something they've never done before and combined the fashion design of Seattle’s Luly Yang with the costume design of Beaver Bauer to create “Love Chaos &Couture: All Dressed Up With Someplace to Go”. Some back story, Teatro ZinZanni also has a home in Seattle and many of the people that work with the Seattle show would pass Luly Yang’s shop until one day the idea came to ask her to design for the show and the great synergy between fashion, costume design, and designing functional clothing for acrobatics came together. The costumes/fashion where just spectacular, from a stunning pink sequin floor length gown, to wonderfully fitted men’s trousers that even allowed for the wearer to glide through the air with the greatest of ease, not to mention (spoiler alert) some fun runway show pieces and what’s even more amazing is it took 10 days to open the show from design, finish and fit in addition to daily washing, alteration, and updating. "Love, Chaos & Couture" proved what some in the fashion industry try to deny there is always room for costume and fashion design to coexist in the same space! Even if fashion or acrobatics aren’t your thing the show also has a wonderfully talented cast headlined by Tony Award winning actress Liliane Montevecchi, and New York Theater World Award winner Frank Ferrante to delight you with their acting chops, and wonderful singing voices, even the wait staff put on a show! “Love, Chaos & Couture: All Dressed up with Someplace to Go” is running now through August 15th, tickets can be purchased at the Box Office at Pier 29 or by phone 415-438-2668.
